Wants vs. Needs Digital Sorting Activity
Wants vs. Needs Digital Sorting Activity
We start the school year in consumer math with a "wants vs. needs" sorting activity to begin building students’ financial literacy around making purchases.
The discussions that come from the activity are priceless!
In this digital drag and drop activity, students sort 30 digital slips into either "wants" or "needs" based on how they feel and what is important in their lives. Student answers will differ, which makes this activity a great way to spark lots of discussion about personal finances.
After sorting their slips, students then type explanations for why they sorted some of their slips where they did:
- I feel that ______________ is a want because:
- I feel that ______________ is a need because:
- ______________ could be considered a want but is a need for me because:
- ______________ could be considered a need but is a want for me because:
