Tax Forms 1040, W-2, 1099, Schedule 1 Consumer Math Scavenger Hunt Activity

Students learn to read federal income tax forms 1040, 1099, W-2 and Schedule 1 in this fun personal finance activity that gets them moving around your classroom. Students will learn which information is given on each tax form as they complete the scavenger hunt.

This activity includes:

• 20 scavenger hunt cards
• Completed Form 1040 for taxpayer Jasmine Pay
• Jasmine's W-2 1099-MISC for prize money Jasmine won at The Price is Pretty Close
• Jasmine's Schedule 1 (page 1 only)

Jasmine Pay is a teacher in Boston who also won money while on the game show The Price is Pretty Close! She received her W-2 from her teaching job, and a 1099-MISC for her game show winnings. Jasmine has already completed her Schedule 1 and 1040 (included).

The 20 scavenger hunt cards are hung around the room in any order. Students get copies of Jasmine's 1040, W-2, 1099 and Schedule 1, along with an answer sheet. Students can start the activity on any of the 20 cards.

How scavenger hunts work:

Students complete the problem on the first card they choose, mark the card number and answer on their answer sheet, then find the answer at the top of another card in the room. Students then complete the problem on this 2nd card and look for the answer at the top of the 3rd card, etc. Play continues until all 20 cards have been visited.
